AFM is manufactured from reprocessed green
glass bottles, and as such the product is environmentally sustainable.
It is a relatively simple matter to do a particle size
reduction of glass to produce a sand substitute. However such a
product could never achieve certification for drinking water, we therefore
decided to develop a product that was far superior to a simple crush glass.
This has taken us 10 years, but we have succeeded in the development of
AFM. A new AFM will soon be in production which will have 5 times the
capacity of regular AFM to adsorb organics and list 1 chemicals.
The primary reason for developing AFM was to solve a problem
from using sand in sand filters. The fact that we use what is considered a
waste material provides and extra environmental benefit for adopting AFM
filtration.
AFM is in compliance with UK Government sustainable procurement strategy, the use of AFM also saves water and energy and gives a Life Cycle
payback in around 12 months. Funding is also available for local authorities and industry to adopted an environmental strategy employing AFM. Information
and sources of funding area available below.
