Swimming Pool water quality,  Cryptosporidium  &  Changing room infections

Cryptosporidium

One of the sources of Cryptosporidium oocysts infection in a swimming pool is the mains water supply.  Dryden Aqua now have available "Point of Entry" ultra Filtration systems to treat all of the water entering the facility. The Ultra Filters and a low cost and self cleaning, basically you install the equipment on your mains water supply entering the building. The Ultra Filter will remove everything in the water down to 0.01 microns, this means that it will not only remove 100% of the Cryptosporidium oocysts but also 100% of the bacteria and up to 99.9% of all viruses.

The main source of oocysts is the public,   and chlorine will not kill the organisms. Ozone is not all that effective and there is considerable debate whether or not UVc actually works. Certainly if UVc is used then you should always employ and activated carbon filter after the UV unit, otherwise you generate a high level of THM`s. The only safe means of Crypto control is to physically remove the organism from the water.  The best way to achieve this task is by AFM filtration using good coagulation and flocculation prior to filtration. A good flocculent such as PAC should always be used, at Dryden Aqua we have now introduced APF ( Active Poly Floc) which is a combination of PAC and polyelectrolytes which have been tuned to work in a swimming pool environment.

                        Disinfect and de-odorize automatically with zero chemicals

Changing rooms and all surface in contact with people, such as the floor, walls, mats and any plastic pool toys can all harbour bacteria.  Changing rooms also have their own characteristic smell which is caused by bacteria.  Dryden Aqua now have automatic ozonation systems that can work for a few hours every night to disinfect  and de-odorize the changing room. When used in the pool area, the DAUV equipment can also reduce the bacterial levels or completely disinfect the floors,  walls, ventilation system and pool toys. Indeed any item exposed to the ozone will be treated.

Normally there should be nobody present during the treatment,  however if you have to enter the room  you can turn the generator off by the remote switch. After 30 minutes it will be safe to enter, alternatively an ozone monitor and can be connected to the equipment to automatically control the ozone concentration below a level safe for people to enter but still sufficient to be effective.  The system is essentially maintenance free, and only requires a clean once a year.
