NoPhos

Phosphate control, bacteria and algae control, flocculation & Bio-catalyst
Public Aquaria
Aquatic Displays For zoos, aquatic exhibits and aquariums, NoPhos should be dosed into the water at a low level over several weeks until the phosphate has been reduced. Dissolve 1 kg of NoPhos in 20 liters of water and pump into the system prior to the sand or AFM filters over a minimum of 1 week, or until the phosphate levels have been reduce to less than 0.1 mg/l as PO4-P
Swimming pools
Swimming Pools. NoPhos can be added directly to the pool once the public have left for the evening,  or it may be dissolved in water and dosed in front of the AFM or sand filters.  NoPhos will react with phosphates in the water to form an insoluble precipitate that will be removed by the filters. Bacteria and algae require phosphate as a micro nutrient, if you remove phosphate you effectively stop the growth of bacteria and algae.  NoPhos reduces chlorine demand and combined chlorine by approximately 60%, system hygiene is improved and bacteria load on the system decreases. NoPhos will work with sand filters, but for best results use AFM filter media.
Wastewater treatment
Wastewater treatment NoPhos is added to waste water prior to AFM filtration to reduce or virtually eliminate the discharge of phosphate from wastewater treatment systems. When used in conjunction with AFM filter media it acts as a surface catalyst and accelerates the oxidation and cracking of organics as well as helping to disinfect the water. NoPhos is dosed at a ratio of 10:1 e.g., if there is 0.5mg/l of PO4-P, you need 10 x 0.5 = 5mg/l of NoPhos.
Aquaculture industry         remove phosphate, reduces suspended solids, reduce ammonium production
Aquaculture effluent can have high levels of phosphate or levels above the consent to discharge. 1 gram of NoPhos will reduce the level of PO4-P by 0.1mg/l in 1 cubic meter of water as phosphorous.  To use the product simply dissolve 1 or more kg of NoPhos into clean freshwater and then dose in to you discharge water at a rate  that will reduce the phosphate level to a point in compliance with your discharge consent.  There may be only a requirement to add the product at certain times of the day.  The NoPhos should be dosed up-stream of your sedimentation tanks and filters.  The NoPhos will form an insoluble precipitate of phosphate, which is inert.  In addition to reducing the phosphate levels NoPhos will cause flocculation of small particles in the water which will greatly improve the performance of your sedimentation tanks and filters.  Dryden Aqua can also provide you with the dosing pumps and storage tanks.
Activated sludge
Activated sludge system.  NoPhos is used to stabilise bacteria floc,  the catalytic action of NoPhos also helps to slightly increase the redox potential which benefits aerobic bacteria. NoPhos can greatly improve the performance off all types of activated sludge system.  The quantity of product required relates to the biomass of bacteria in the system.  As a guide the amount of NoPhos required equates with 1% of the bacteria cell biomass.  The NoPhos should be added to the system over a period of  2 weeks.
Lakes & ponds
Ponds. Measure the phosphate level as PO4-P, (e.g. 0.5mg/l), estimate total volume of water (e.g. 1000 m3) determine weight of phosphate (0.5 x 1000 = 500 grams). You will need 500 x 10 grams of NoPhos = 5kg. Add the NoPhos over a period of at least 4 weeks, by dissolving in water and using a watering can or dosing pump add a small quantity every  day or every few days over the surface of the pond. Thereafter you should use a maintenance dose of approximately 10% = 0.5 kg per week.  Important Note.....  in some cases the phosphate level will be zero,  this is because the algae have used all of the available phosphorous. In these situations you need to make an estimate as to the level of  phosphate, and 0.5mg/l is a reasonable estimate.  The lake or pond is then dosed on the basis that the free phosphate level is 0.5mg/l  It is important to monitor the phosphate level on a regular basis to make sure that the phosphate level is kept under control because as the algae start to starve and die,  it will release phosphate.  The NoPhos will prevent the phosphate being made available to the algae,  so after a period of a few weeks the algae will gradually disappear.
Aquatic Displays, with no fish or aquatic life
NoPhos has a lower toxicity threshold than common salt ( Sodium Chloride), but too high a level can still be harmful to freshwater aquatic life.  However if the pond is ornamental, or part of an aquatic display in which there is no aquatic life,  you can use a high dose of NoPhos. For example the pond my be dosed at the beginning of the year to last the whole year, this makes for very easy maintenance of the system.  In these systems the dose level is still a function of the phosphate concentration, however as a guide you can add around 10g of NoPhos per 1 cubic metre of water in the system.

NoPhos will prevent the growth of algae, it will also slow down or prevent the growth of bacteria.  The product even works in seawater at water temperature in excess of 36 degrees centigrade. NoPhos removes the nutrients required by algae and bacteria to prevent their growth as opposed to being toxic to the organisms.  This makes NoPhos perfect for aquatic displays.

NoPhos in Drinking Water

We are in progress with the certification of NoPhos for use in Drinking Water systems in the UK. NoPhos has a lower toxic threshold than Aluminium based flocculents such as PAC,  however it is a much better flocculent.  NoPhos has been designed to remove phosphates but the product will also efficiently remove Arsenic from drinking water ( click here for arsenic removal).
