The ClorTec SCT Compact On-SiteSodium Hypochlorite Generator
| | pdf leaflet | prices | | ||||||||
The revolutionary new ClorTec SCT is a fully integrated patented* design from Severn Trent Services and provided to the swimming pool and aquaculture industry by Dryden Aqua. Dryden Aqua designed water treatment systems use at least 80% less chlorine than conventional sand filtration systems. This permits small sodium hypochlorite generators to be used for relatively large installations, and the new design from Severn Trent provides an efficient, very reliable and safe system that can be used in any plant room. The ClorTec system puts an end to handling dangerous chemicals, and combined with Dryden Aqua AFM® and flocculation systems will give you a return in capital measured in months. Salt, water and electricity are electrolysed to produce up to 2kg/day chlorine equivalent of hypochlorite solution at 0.7% strength. The system offers superior health and safety benefits for employees on site due to its innovative design. Air is blown into the generator to dilute the hydrogen by-product at the point of production to more than 10 times lower than the minimum safe limit. With over 15 years experience in electrochlorination technology, and more than 3,500 systems worldwide by Severn Trent, you can be assured of a quality product. The simple and compact skid based design uses batch mode production to ensure low operating and capital costs. | ![]() | ||||||||

| Principle of Operation Design and operation of the ClorTec SCT System for on-site generation of sodium hypochlorite is straightforward. The system uses a batch process to generate 0.7% strength sodium hypochlorite solution.The entire process takes less than 2.5 hours to complete. :: Using softened water, salt (NaCl) is dissolved in a tank to form a concentrated (30%) brine solution :: As the brine solution passes through a cell, DC power is applied to the electrodes, electrolysing the brine solution. Hypochlorite and hydrogen are produced :: Air is blown into the cell, diluting hydrogen at the point of production :: Hypochlorite gravitates to the product tank
| Features :: Generates sodium hypochlorite on-site :: Batch process :: Hydrogen dilution at the point of production :: Produces up to 2kg/day or up to 4.4lb/day chlorine equivalent of hypochlorite at 0.7% strength :: Integrated skid design :: Simple design with minimal moving parts and components :: Small footprint
| Benefits :: Provides maximum safety benefit minimal venting of hydrogen :: Produces low by-products :: No need for storage or transportation of hazardous chemicals :: Low operating and capital costs :: Flexible solution easily transportable for permanent or temporary installation :: Suitable for a variety of applications including industrial, municipal, leisure :: Simple maintenance easy installation of new or additional cells :: Reliable solution fewer moving parts than other solutions

| Sizing the system. The sizing of the system depends upon the design of the swimming pool, volume of water, and quality of the water filtration system and if the pool is exposed to sunlight. UV disinfection and ozone are not recommended because both processes simply increase chlorine consumption and generate of chlorine reaction products. On a typical 25m pool with approx 500 cubic metres of water, the recycle rate will be 4 hours giving a water flow of 125 cubic metres per hour. The ChlorTech SCT unit generates 83 g/hr of chlorine which will give a maximum concentration of 0.66 mg/l of free chlorine on the first pass. If the chlorine consumption in the system is less than 0.6 mg/l when the water returns back to the injection point then the SCT unit will provide sufficient chlorine for the application. The chlorine consumption rate is a function of the loading that the system receives, the standard SCT unit will provide sufficient chlorine for private swimming pools right up to a 25m commercial pool which have less than 500 bathers per day. If the bather load is 500 to 1000 per day, then 2 of the SCT units and 4 kg per day of chlorine will be required. If the chlorine demand is greater than 4 kg per day, then we move on to using a larger unit, details of which are available on request. Please note that this sizing information provided is provisional and is based on Dryden Aqua approved systems using good quality filters operating at sensible water flow of less than 15 cubm/hr per square meter of filter bed surface area and back-washed at 40 cubm/hr/sqm . AFM® filtration media must be used, combined with coagulation and flocculation using APF and NoPhos. | |||||||||
