The above is a photograph of a float switch type Tear Drop is fitted with an internal rolling ball switch,  mercury switches are no longer used for environmental reasons..  The float switch is provided with cable, 5m, 10m, or 20m.  The photograph shows the float switch with an in-line weight,  the float switch pivots about the weight.  The material of construction is PVC and rubber to provide a very robust corrosion resistant switch that can be used to activate alarm systems, or to switch pumps on or off. 

The cable contains three wires one  (brown) of which is common, a choice is then made which one of the other wires is used to create the circuit to form a normally open or normally closed status.  Additional details and prices of the switch are provided in our on-line store.

The economy float switch is a low cost basic unit supplied with 10m of PVC cable.  The switch is an internal roller ball reed switch.  This switch is used for a variety of applications,  such as the control of submersible pumps. 

The cable must be secured to an object or weight in order to provide a pivot point for the float.

The system can be used in fresh water, sea water, sewerage and industrial effluent.
