Pool Check pH

The pH of swimming pool water is very important because it affects the way in which the chlorine reacts and disinfects.   If the pH is too high (above pH 7 and alkaline) then chlorine is not very effective.  If the pH is too low ( below pH 7 and acidic), then the chlorine works well but it is consumed rapidly and the water is smells of chlorine and is unpleasant  to swim.

The optimum pH for swimming pool water is between a pH of 6.8 and 7.6. The pH of the water becomes acidic then sodium bicarbonate may be used to increase the pH.
