The process is based on a slow moving polyester mesh conveyor belt sitting at a 20 degree inclined angle to the water. The belt is continuously cleaned with high pressure jets of water. The waste sludge can also be automatically transported to the next part of the filtration process for further processing. Details of sludge handling and disposal are given below.
The advantage of the Dryden filter is that the solids are very gently lifted up and out of the water, the particles do not have to stick to the screen in order to be removed. This one feature greatly improves the efficiency of the filter in removing soft particles such as bacterial floc, fish faecal matter, food processing waste. Because the particles are gently removed from the water, they are not subjected to mechanical agitation or break-up. The Dryden conveyor filter therefore achieves a very high removal efficiency in comparison to vertical screens and rotating drums.
The unit is designed to fit a channel 1 metre in width, 0.75m in depth. Different mesh sizes are available for the belt ranging from 50 microns to 500 microns. The standard size will be 100 microns, and the water flowrate will be in order of 100 litres per second with this screen. This is a new filter, therefore in order to obtain the latest information, installation details please contact Dryden Aquaculture. The filter will be supplied complete ready to be dropped into a suitable channel.
Water flowrates
The conveyor filter belt is moving all the time, it does not stop and start. The reason for this is that we do not want to place any force what-so-ever on the collected soft particles. The angle of approach of the filter to the water is only 20 degrees. The solids are therefore lifted out of the water. This makes for a very high efficiency of solids removal, it also means that it is very difficult to block the conveyor belt. The equipment can therefore take very heavy suspended solids load without any problem.
