Drum Filter
for marine and freshwater filtration

Drum filter for the mechanical filtration of freshwater and seawater.  The filter is virtually 100% plastic construction so it is the perfect equipment for marine or freshwater aquaculture.

In marine and freshwater closed systems it is absolutely essential there are no metal ions in contact with the water, otherwise there could be toxic metal ion dissolution into the water.

Juvenile fish, and especially marine species are extremely sensitive to metals,  even stainless steel can cause problems with nickel and chromium. The Dryden Aqua drum filter is the only drum filter available that can achieve this task and avoid fish toxicity reactions.

The standard drum filters are fitted with 30 micron mesh which provides nominal filtration down to 10 microns, which is fine for fish over 2 to 5 g in size. However for hatchery work, larvae and fish under 5 grams we recommend AFM® filtration.

AFM® filters

AFM® ( Activated Filter Media) in Dryden Aqua DIN specification sand filters provides the best possible water quality.  For pump ashore and recycle schematics click here of go to the aquaculture sections of http://www.DrydenAqua.com  AFM® filtration will remove particles in the water down to micron and sub-micron level which is essential for marine larvae of cod, halibut, turbot sea bass, tiger shrimps and barramundi etc etc.

Denitrification media

If you operate a closed marine system of if you wish to keep hold of the water in a freshwater system, then denitrification will be required to prevent the accumulation of nitrate.  Most of the aquaculture industry have used heterotrophic anaerobic denitrification which is at best problematic as the systems produce nitrosamines which are toxic to the fish.  A much better approach is to employ autotrophic denitrification which results in sulphate and nitrogen as an end product.  The Dryden Aqua denitrification system is very efficient and easy to use.,
