OZ500 Ozone generator       application index   buy or view prices

Some applications

This ozone generator will product up to 0.50g/hr of ozone when used with dry air and 1.0g/hr of ozone when used with oxygen.

The small OZ500 ozone generator is designed for use with oxygen or dry air (air drier),  if the unit is not used with dry air, moisture in the air will react in the chamber to form nitrous acid which could eventually damage the unit and cause acidification of the water.

There are no serviceable components in the OZ500,  it is designed as a very low cost disposable ozone generator.
Specifications
power supply     110v ac to 220v ac selector switch
indication red light power on indicator switch
fused 1 amp quick blow glass fuse with spare
ozone out-put variable out put control dial

dry air or oxygen
minimum air flow required achieve 0.5g/hr of ozone = 2 litres/min
minimum oxygen flow required achieve 1.0g/hr of ozone = 0.5 litres per minute
pressure maximum internal pressure 3 bar, however keep the pressure as low as possible to preserve the ozone.
connection 3/8" stainless steel
mounting 4 lugs for wall mounting

circuit breaker For safety the unit should be powered from a supply fitted with an earth leakage circuit breaker. In-line unit available from Dryden Aqua if you power supply is not protected.

Installation Instructions

Health & Safety

Ozone has an oxidising potential 7 times greater than chlorine gas,  it is therefore important to comply with all health and safety regulations regarding the use and application of ozone. If there is any possibility of ozone entering the atmosphere and exposing personnel,  then an ozone gas sensing monitor should be fitted. Go back to our home page for details on ozone monitors.

Air installation

  1. Mount the ozone generator on a wall and protect from water spray
  2. Connect to power supply via an earth leakage circuit breaker rated at 30mamps
  3. Mount the air drier on a wall next to the generator, and connect using flexible PVC hose to the in port on generator.  If no air drier is used, then nitrous oxide may be formed, this gas when dissolved in water forms nitric acid.  Damage to the ozone generator will occur and the nitric acid may damage your equipment or product.
  4. If the relative humidity of the air is very high,  it may be required to fit a de-humidifier in the room
  5. Connect PVC or PTFE hose to the discharge port from the generator, 3/8" hose, or hose suitable for fitting over a 9mm (3/8") spigot. The inlet port is the same size.
  6. The vacuum may be pulled by a venturi or a vacuum diaphragm pump, alternatively a small compressor may be connected to the inlet port of the ozone generator,  and the discharge port connected to a diffuser.  It is important not to exceed 2 bar and a maximum air flowrate of 150 litres per hour.

Venturi installation additional notes.

The objective is to dissolve the ozone in-line into a water pipe.  Fit the correct venturi in-line or on a by-pass to the main water flow.  Venturi details,  click here .  Fit a valve before and after the venturi,  also fit a gas control valve on the suction side of the injector.  It is very important to prevent water backing up the line to the ozone generator,  this can be achieved by fitting a non return valve or a water trap.  The OZ500 is suitable for use with a protein skimmer

Oxygen installation

  1. Mount the ozone generator on a wall and protect from water spray
  2. Connect to power supply via an earth leakage circuit breaker rated at 30mamps
  3. Use pure oxygen or oxygen from an oxygen generator, and connect using flexible PVC hose to the in port on generator.
  4. Oxygen can cause explosions or fire risk, observe all safety procedures regarding the use of oxygen
  5. Connect PVC or PTFE hose to the discharge port from the generator.
  6. A non return valve should be fitted after the ozone generator to prevent any back siphon of water into the generator.  It is essential that no water enters the generator.   Any fittings used with oxygen must be certified for use with oxygen and be de-greased.

diffuser application, or pressurised

The discharge from the ozone generator may be connected directly to a suitable ceramic or ozone diffuser.  The maximum pressure is 3 bar, and the maximum gas flowrate is 60 litres per hour. As opposed to using a diffusers a small counter current contactor may be used

Operational Notes

  1. Use only voltage as marked on the equipment
  2. A vacuum greater than 10" water gauge will damage the internal cells, avoid pulling a vacuum greater than this figure
  3. A dust filter may be required on the air supply if the unit is operating in a dusty environment
  4. Dust, oils, hydrocarbons, water  will damage the unit
  5. Ambient air temperature must be less than 30 deg C.
