The challenge
- Shrimp experienced slowed growth in later stages, are susceptible to diseases, and increase in overall mortality rates.
- High organic load and lack of biofiltration result in sedimented material polluting the system.
- Low levels of dissolved oxygen (5.5mg/l at 30°C), due to inefficient aeration methods and consumption by organic material.
- Aeration is limited by surface area to volume ratio and traditional shallow tank design.
The solution
- Deeper tanks with a conical base for improved recirculation of sedimented material.
- Fewer diffusers, releasing smaller bubble sizes for longer contact time and enhanced aeration.
- Integration of a biofilter with plug flow circulation of water, facilitated by mass transfer pumps.
Dryden Air Diffusers
New tank Design
Results:
- Dissolved oxygen levels increased from 5.5 mg/L to 7.5 mg/L, with less diffusers
- 90% reduction in the overall water consumption
- Reduced shrimp mortalities
- Reduced feed consumption by 50%
- 20% increased harvest weight of the shrimps
Statement:
“ Since implementing Dryden Air diffusers, we’ve seen improved oxygen levels, reduced water and feed consumption, increased shrimp harvest weight and reduced mortalies.”
